Reflection #5
Prof. Joseph McNair

What is cooperative and collaborative learning? Cooperative learning is a specific type of collaborative learning, in which students work together in a small group on different step by step projects. They are individually responsible for their work, and the work of the group as a whole is also assessed. They also work side by side as a team, there is no individualize work. In this type of learning the students get to understand each other, whether it’s their weakness or their strengths. They give to develop their way of communicating among their peers.
They also learn how to deal with everyday issues among the group, whether it’s bad or good. They deal with it, because it helps them to deal with any conflict that becomes a burden to them or their following classmates. Their come up with different objectives to help them grasp the different activities that they have to learn. They also do different activities so that they can understand and explore the different areas of studies. In cooperative learning the teachers become learners, they basically listen to what the students has to say.
What is collaborative learning? Collaborative learning is method of teaching and learning that helps students to work as a team. It’s like a group project, in which a lot of team work is needed. Everyone pitches in ideas in order to conclude an assignment. The students are in control, the teacher just sit back and assess what the students have put together. The students are putting ideas together so that they can share what they have learned among each other.
The students can exchange what they learn over the internet to other students within the group. Some students share information threw the web to help grasp and continue the word spread of their assessments. This is also an example of cooperative learning, so they both share the same comparisons. They both are educational ways of learning among a group and you own peers at the same time. Working in groups within these learning are based upon teamwork. If you notice, there is no “I” in teamwork; teamwork is very important in cooperative and collaborative learning.
In conclusion I like the way that both learning bases educate students on communication. Most students aren’t really interpersonal among their peers, so they definitely help build a child’s communication stage. Most students, like I don’t really like to work in groups; whether it’s because you’re nervous or you just rather work on your own in completing an assignment.
If you also notice respect must be given to each member, because you can’t have anyone walking out of a group project. That may cause you to fail! Sometimes working in a group can bring about stress on one person who would rather do all the work because others aren’t really reaching or meeting their standard. I can relate to that, because in high school I had many group projects that always ended up bad.
