Reflection #1
Prof. Joseph McNair
Despite the differences in experiences with teachers in schools across the world, every teacher develops a lesson plan for their classes. A lesson plan is basically a blueprint for how a teacher will complete an educational goal for students. However, what exactly is a lesson plan? What does a lesson plan consist of? How effective is a lesson plan for teachers?
What is a lesson plan? According to Wikipedia, it is a detailed description of the class course for individual lessons. Lesson plans normally consist of a series of objectives such as behavioral objectives or knowledgeable objectives. A successful lesson plan maximizes the knowledge and learning curve of individual students. Of course, every teacher lesson plan varies and is manipulated to best serve the overall student body.
What does a lesson plan consist of? Lesson plans consists of mostly the coursework for the whole class, work for small groups of students, workshops, independent work for students, and peer learning. A great way to gauge the progression in students on the subject is through cumulative testing. One form of testing is through summative assessments, which gauge the learning needs of students. Another form of testing is formative assessments, which evaluate the process of a student learning.
How effective is a lesson plan for teachers? Lesson plans act as a guide for teachers to follow throughout the school year. It helps teachers evaluate the class progression of being knowledgeable of the subject matter. At the end of the school year, teachers normally have a designated educational goal set for the students to achieve. Even though teachers teach the class, they also are in a position to learn how to adjust their lesson plan to accommodate the advancement or regression of the students learning.
Almost every teacher across the world uses a lesson plan. Almost all class work students do in a classroom has been scripted in some degree to help guide them to better knowledge. Lesson plans play a vital role in shaping effective teaching towards students. Some of the best teachers have a great lesson plan as a foundation of their classroom. Without lesson plans, teaching might be difficult and student progression in the subject will be negatively effected.
