Reflection #2

The purpose of this reflection is to distinguish the difference between behaviorist lesson plan and constructivist lesson plan. These both lesson plans were created in their own perspectives by different well-known educators. Each lesson plan states their own theological knowledge of how a lesson plan should be created and what information should be interpret within it. They both exercise different step by step procedures that are essential tools in educating students. These lesson plans serves as a purpose in helping students achieve the needed tools that will make them successful throughout their educational lifetime.
Behaviorist lesson plan was first introduced by Madeline Hunter, who was a well know educator within her time. She was known for standing up for what she believes in and also as a devoted educator and the voice of the children. While coming up with the behaviorist lesson plan, she produced eight principles that would help teachers in understanding what was being taught. These eight principles were not provided for a particular age group or educational forms, but for everyone within the educational fields.
These steps were purpose, input, modeling, anticipatory set, checking for understanding, guided practice, independent practices and closure.
In purpose, the goal is to see what the child already learned before entering your class. Anticipatory set is use as a short activity to distinguish the educational level of the student. In an input the teacher will use concepts to see how well the student can put knowledge into a sequence. Modeling is basically demonstrating a step by step instruction, so that the student will be able to follow. Guided practice is when the teacher leads the students necessary to follow a format. Checking for understanding is clearly use to see what they have learned throughout the class period. Independent practices are when the teacher lets the student complete an assignment by themselves. Closure is basically the format that allows the teacher to know if the students grasp all the information that was taught to them.
Constructivist lesson plan basically tells you about six important elements that are different than the behaviorist lesson plan. In this lesson plan you have situations, grouping, bridge, questions, exhibit, and reflections. These tools are very essential in the education format; because a student can be able to explain the way they feel whether it’s thru writing or displaying.
This lesson plan is design so that the teachers can know if the student understands what was being taught to them by explain and expressing it thru their work. This lesson plan works on the student behalf, because they get to ask questions in order to get a response from their teacher.
In a situation the teacher gets to put together a lesson plan that will explore the mind of the student. Grouping has two forms, whether based on having the students within a group or grouping the materials together for the students. A bridge is like building the knowledge of the students, to see where they stand. A question is getting feedback from the student to see if they understand what was being said. Exhibits allow students to showcase what they learn. Reflections are basically what I’m writing now to show my expression on the way I feel about the topic.

Despite the differences in experiences with teachers in schools across the world, every teacher develops a lesson plan for their classes. A lesson plan is basically a blueprint for how a teacher will complete an educational goal for students. However, what exactly is a lesson plan? What does a lesson plan consist of? How effective is a lesson plan for teachers?
What is a lesson plan? According to Wikipedia, it is a detailed description of the class course for individual lessons. Lesson plans normally consist of a series of objectives such as behavioral objectives or knowledgeable objectives. A successful lesson plan maximizes the knowledge and learning curve of individual students. Of course, every teacher lesson plan varies and is manipulated to best serve the overall student body.
What does a lesson plan consist of? Lesson plans consists of mostly the coursework for the whole class, work for small groups of students, workshops, independent work for students, and peer learning. A great way to gauge the progression in students on the subject is through cumulative testing. One form of testing is through summative assessments, which gauge the learning needs of students. Another form of testing is formative assessments, which evaluate the process of a student learning.
How effective is a lesson plan for teachers? Lesson plans act as a guide for teachers to follow throughout the school year. It helps teachers evaluate the class progression of being knowledgeable of the subject matter. At the end of the school year, teachers normally have a designated educational goal set for the students to achieve. Even though teachers teach the class, they also are in a position to learn how to adjust their lesson plan to accommodate the advancement or regression of the students learning.
Almost every teacher across the world uses a lesson plan. Almost all class work students do in a classroom has been scripted in some degree to help guide them to better knowledge. Lesson plans play a vital role in shaping effective teaching towards students. Some of the best teachers have a great lesson plan as a foundation of their classroom. Without lesson plans, teaching might be difficult and student progression in the subject will be negatively effected.

The “Little Rock Nine” were a group of African American students who were unable to attend school a high school in Little Rock, Arkansas. They were not allowed to enter the school because they were African Americans and we all know that back in the days colored and white were not suppose to share the same school. Imagine being young and black and your Governor is telling you that you can’t attend a school because of you race, when you actually looked up to him because he was higher authority. These kids went thru a lot from being forced out of school by armed men, that could of shoot them died and no one would even care. Society has changed a lot but there is still racism among us today.
Without the “Little Rock Nine”, segregation amongst school would have still been around today; whether we like it or not. They made sure that their children and future African American students would never have to deal with this kind of situation again. In some states parents and political figures were trying to bring segregation back, but they were over powered by people in our society. This whole situation brought about a lot of changes in the way Americans see our school system, seeing that is would be impossible to separate one ethnic group from another. More students are becoming more powerful in their views about segregation despite what race they belong to, but this issue is way from over and it may come back later in the future.
Looking back on this historic moment has made me realize how fortunate I was, being born in the 80’s than any time before that. So I didn’t have to deal with that kind of issue as the “Little Rock Nine” students had to deal with. Honestly I don’t think I would of made it thru living back in that time because I would have been so scared and quite. People would of throw stones at me and call me names and I would be so scared to even tell my family, because I would of fear for their lives and mines. Segregation wasn’t call for back in the 50’s and so forth, I don’t understand why it was even thought about; it was just a cruel way of scaring and providing the lack of education for the African Americans.
We been thru a lot and up to this day I still feel that we are still back in the past in some places of the world even though it is not as serious as before. Despite the fact that we have a “black president”, that doesn’t mean that change will come right away for some people who are still being called the n word. Even though black people call each other that for whatever pointless reason, no one should be called that word. We owe it to the people that tried to stop that word from being said and to the people who sat at the front of the bus.
They made America into something so that we as African Americans can live a way better life than what they had.
Honestly I am so proud of the “little Rock Nine” students and so many others that helped me to live a better life in America. Without These people who made a difference, segregation would have still been around, if they didn’t fight for what they believed in. Even though racism is still among us it isn’t as strong as when the “Little Rock Nine” students were around. I would have never stood up against segregation as they did; they were brave and never afraid to stand up for a change. That’s why I’m prove to be an African American, despite the fact that we were slaves, beaten, spit on, and tormented; I would never as to be no other race than an African American.

What is culture? Culture can be defined as the characteristics of an individual, that helps define who they are. People are mostly distinguish by their culture because of where they came from. There are different cultures that are made up of values and beliefs that most individuals or ethnic group follow. Basically people live their lives among their culture in order to distance themselves from one another. Culture can also bring about and individual behavior, whether it’s positive or negative.
Culture has many different values that are attached to them; some cultures enable us to assist others in situations. Some cultures see things very different that’s why there are many conflicts amongst certain ethnic groups. Society has viewed culture to be sometimes a bad thing, because it can make or break an individual values that were presented to them. It is true that culture amongst different groups can change an individual, but we have to realize that’s what that person was taught within their home or society. There are different norms that each culture may go by and if you disrespect its values, most people sometimes face exile from that culture or their families.
Growing up in a Caribbean culture is quite different from an American culture because most Caribbean families feel as though Americans are more restful with their children. Most Americans let their children talk back to them and hit them and they just admire their children’s behavior verses a Caribbean family that would slap or beat their kids for talking back to them. That’s how most of society sees American culture as the easy way of living and no hardship. Other cultures allow their kids to get married to older men, because they feel that their child is ready for adult life. Most of the time the children don’t even want to do it, but they really don’t have a choice. That I why our children today are becoming more and more independent, because they feel that they have to do what their parents or culture forces them to do.
Some cultures believe in marriage before sex, and some could care less. In the Caribbean sex before marriage is very unacceptable, you are sometimes viewed in your house as an outcast because you didn’t follow your parent’s rules or culture values. Now days it is very common to have sex before marriage because young people are ignoring norms that were taught to them within their household. Kids are having kids, and most parents feel as though society is to blame for all this unacceptable behavior. People need to understand that society and culture can’t mold an individual, it can only help shape who that person wants to be or do.
I know that cultures are different, but the most interesting thing is having two people come from a whole different culture. That’s really a big deal today, because most people are stepping out of their own culture to find love. So there for their children are being taught two different cultures and sometimes that can confuse a child in society in helping to see what cultural group they belong to. I was brought up with two different cultures, but I know what I am, so therefore I don’t have an issue with what culture. As you grow older you will find out more about your culture, so that will help you understand more about what culture really is; and what it stands for.

Human diversity is the difference between a group or set of individuals that have their own distinguishing personality and biological genes that helps separate them from other people and cultures. All of us were not made up the same way we all have different characteristic, whether it our facial composer, body structure, skin color, and hair type. We are all one but we have our own lifestyle and beliefs that helps separate us from one another. Even though society can bring about changes to these genetics by doing surgeries, the real person underneath the skin will always be you. No matter how we perceive life, the world is always going to be diverse no matter we may go.
We have to understand that America is getting more diverse than even before, people now want to live the American dream. People are running away from exile, crossing sea, and dying just to life the American way in order to help feed, make a better life and protect their families. My parents moved from where they were born just so that my siblings and I could be American citizens, so that our lives could be easier. So diversity is nothing new to me because most of the Caribbean is diverse in its own unique way. Remember that diversity is a commitment to a certain group in which they are made up of their own unique characteristics.
Diversity today has some people wondering about different ethnic groups that are taking over their societal environment. Diversity is not being valued the way it should be, people are seeing it as a bad thing, but really diversity has done a lot for the American culture. We all are not the same, we were meant to be different; no race is better than one another despite what history has taught us to perceive. That’s why we all must be treated the same way, whether it’s at the workplace, school, or in public somewhere, that doesn’t mean that we must discriminate each other. We as humans to learn how to open up to different things in life, we are all not the same, and we surely didn’t come from the same place.
Many of us have to deal with diversity every day, sometimes more than others.
I deal with diversity almost every day because of where I work; my co-workers are from differently nationalities. Sometimes it can be stressful because they sometimes speak their official language and they know that you don’t understand, but they speak it anyways. Dealing with that can be very stressful, but I always take it as a learning experience in life that we have to master. Imagine being in a classroom with Spanish speaking students, you will have to learn how to hold a conversation with them to make sure that they know that they are also a part of the class. It doesn’t matter if you know they are they but it is your duty to make sure that they want to belong.

A paradigm is a way to help describe the way someone thinks and feel about something or someone. It can be used as a pattern or a model to help someone understand the point that is trying to be made. A paradigm can help a person overcome a situation based on how it can shift from one culture to another, or a different nationality to another. Values and assumptions play a major role in a paradigm, because it can help separate someone from another culture. Meaning that people can tell where you are from just the way you may look, dress, and what you may eat as well.
Paradigm shift is no different to a paradigm they both have the same concepts, whether it’s using a model, chart, or line graph. They both help us as humans perceive our intellectual meanings and ideas. Throughout the years looks how technology has changed from not being invented to now being the biggest influence in how we translate communication. It came a long way from mailing letters to now using computers to send information to love ones, that’s not even all you can take pictures and send them all over
the world. Cell phones are also playing in big role in news, when people take pictures of events happening and sending the pictures to the broadcasting studios. People are no longer waiting for the news to come to the, they are seeing the news happening right in from of them.
Many of us go through a paradigm or a paradigm shift throughout our lifetime whether it was in the future or the past. It doesn’t have to always be something bad, it can be something that betters you throughout your life. Just by making one change in your life, can make a difference in it, whether you believe it or not. One decision can change that individual that you no longer want to be, to the person you want to become. Paradigms are in our world for a reason, even if it helps bring changes and the way we perceive things.
As a working teacher in progress, paradigms are very useful to in society today especially in education. Teachers must always have an open mind about a situation, especially in the classroom setting; whether it’s dealing with the students, faculty, or teachers. They have to know what to say to the students without saying he wrong type of words or painting the wrong picture in the child head. Young minds are always acquiring everything that is being taught to them at such a young age. We have to remember that all of our students weren’t brought up in the same home, lifestyle, culture, religion and values from others.
My paradigm shift was moving from St. Thomas U.S. Virgin Islands to Miami, FL at the age of 19yrs old on my own. I must say that was the most drastic change in my lifetime, moving from a small island to a fast pace state. Another change understood the different culture to another, coming from a Caribbean atmosphere to an American lifestyle. I had to learn the different foods they eat and the way they dress, even though Miami is diverse; I still had to adapt to the American ways. I must say I’m getting use to the whole American lifestyle on my own because of how I perceive things on my own.
